Alges made Benfica’s life harder
than expected, going to the Luz Gym and leaving with a four point defeat.
Benfica had an awful day shooting from 3 and was never able to find the right
way to attack the defensive zone planed by the Greens. Antonio Pires, with 17
points and 10 assists, was the Alges main player, while LaceDarius Dunn made
his premiere with the Reds’ shirt, scoring 4 points in 24 minutes, with 0-6 in
three-point-shots.
Second shock defeat to Lusitania,
who lost 82-58 in Ovar. The home team added Miguel Miranda, a Portuguese
international and former Porto player, giving experience to a very young side.
Miranda helped with 11 points and 7 rebounds, while Mario Goncalves was, once
again, highlighted, with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Fisica grabbed their first win over
Sampaense. Ivan Kostourkov’s men presented a strong defensive work, based in a
collective effort that enabled the Sampaense qualities to shine. Al Rapier
scored 22 points but his team went 1-13 from the three point line. Miguel Barroca, with 20 points and 4 assists, was the most impacting player on the
Torres Vedras side.
But when talking about youth, we
have to talk about BC Barcelos. Matic Sirnik scored 21 points, Marko Loncovic
and Nuno Oliveira had double-doubles, and Rui Coelho is a very important piece
of Ricardo Rodrigues’ defense. They’re all Under-23 and in the starting five.
Barcelos got their second win over Galitos, 67-72.
